Summer programme equips youth with maritime skills

Aiming at preparing our youth for future, Sultan Qaboos Naval Academy is hosting a unique summer program under the supervision of the North Al Batinah Governor's Office,. That is for equipping youth with essential maritime skills and preparing them for future careers and international experiences. Over four days, more than 100 participants will engage in a series of promising training sessions and field activities.

The program features an impressive simulation system used for firefighting training, enhancing participants' emergency response capabilities. A set of informative lectures highlighted  the academy's pivotal role in training and preparing maritime professionals. Participants are divided into two groups in which male and female will have equal chances to participate and live the experience.

Dr. Abdullah bin Said Al Busaidi, head of the Executive Committee for Summer Centers in North Al Batinah, emphasized the program’s significance “on the belief of the importance of providing equal opportunities for youth and guiding their interests towards new fields such as the maritime sector, we have targeted 100 youth from Al Suwaiq to participate in the program. This initiative serves as a new center of knowledge in maritime sciences, opening new horizons for today’s youth. We are committed to offering specialized programs where youth experience smart simulations based on advanced technologies.”

The training includes hand onexperience with light weapons, stressing the importance of such training. Field visits to the Sailing Center will introduce participants to fundamental sailing skills, while trips to the Diving and Mine Countermeasure School will offer insights into diving techniques. Participants also will have the opportunity to embark on one of the Oman Sea Project ships, providing a practical glimpse into maritime life.

Expressing their enthusiasm, several participants noted that the program offers a unique chance to acquire new skills and understand the critical role of the naval forces in national protection. A diverse sports program was also organized, featuring activities aimed at enhancing physical fitness and teamwork.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the North Al Batinah Governor's Office to promote the importance of education and training among youth, fostering skill development and guiding them towards a promising future. Through such comprehensive activities, the program aims to empower students with practical and theoretical knowledge, cultivating a generation capable of shouldering responsibilities efficiently.

By participating in these innovative maritime training sessions, the youth are not only prepared for local challenges but are also equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for international maritime endeavors. The region's commitment to youth development and future readiness in the maritime domain can be seen in such programs.
