Summary of the Governorate

Al Batinah North Governorate, stretches as a coastline located between the sea and the mountains, is one of the most geographically and economically exceptional governorates of the Sultanate. It includes six wilayats; Suhar, Shinas, Liwa, Saham, Al-Khaboura, AlSuwaiq, while the capital of the Governorate is W. Suhar
Due to its crucial geographical location on the southern coast of the Oman Sea. Al Batinah North Governorate is considered an Omani maritime portal that links Oman to other countries via maritime and commercial activities in the Gulf and Indian Ocean.
Al Batinah North Governorate is featured with economic potentials represented in the agricultural plains of the Sultanate (AlBatinah plain), in addition to the mineral raw materials being utilized for establishing several heavy and vital industries.
Suhar Port and the Free Zone represent enormous economic projects in the Sultanate, especially when the Industrial Estate of Suhar pursues to attract a large number of colossal industrial and transformational projects such as fertilizer, petrochemicals, aluminum, and iron. This was enhanced by the establishment of Suhar Airport, which represents a new aerial destination for Oman, and will contribute to the development of the nearby commercial and industrial sectors, in addition to developing Shinas port, linking the Musandam Governorate to the Al Batinah North Governorate via sea lines to transport passengers and goods, as well as a cooperation agreement between Oman Rail and Etihad Rail to establish a joint venture to implement and operate a railway network linking Suhar Port to the UAE national railway network.
The total population of Al Batinah North Governorate accumulates to (795,405) people according to the statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information for December 2021. There are 12 members elected to the Municipal Council of Al Batinah North Governorate, representing the different Wilayats in the Governorate.
